How far can virtual reality influence people subconsciously?
Toward the end of my studies, I developed a keen interest in the concept of priming. I was intrigued by the extent to which a medium like virtual reality (VR) could subconsciously influence people. Priming is a phenomenon we encounter in our daily lives, yet we often remain unaware of its impact. I wanted to learn more and explore it further!
Priming is a psychological phenomenon where exposure to one stimulus influences the response to a subsequent stimulus without conscious guidance or intention. For example, seeing the word 'yellow' may make someone quicker to recognize the word 'banana'.
The study began with the use of a 360-degree video to prime the test subjects on the concept of environmental pollution. Afterward, they were given the task of engaging in a self-developed Unity simulation. In this simulation, the participants were required to fish and encountered an ethical dilemma during the process.
